Derech HaMelech – College Credit Program
A Bachelors of Science in Liberal Studies degree from Excelsior College is available to students that complete all coursework. Excelsior College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Universities. The program takes two years to complete.
Yeshiva learning is transferred to college credits through proficiency exams. These exams are evaluated by the Program on Non-Collegiate Sponsored Instruction of the Board of Regents of the State of New York).*
Approximately 107 of the 120 credits can be earned through self-study of course material and exams taken while attending Derech HaMelech. The four required courses for the first semester in the yeshiva are: Gemara, Ulpan (Elementary Modern Hebrew), Tefillah, and Nevi’im Rishonim (Ancient Jewish History).
In addition to credits earned on-site, there are two outside exams in math and English, and one online course which takes about 10 hours to complete. Study materials will be made available for these exams, which in turn will be arranged by the yeshiva.
Credits earned outside the program can be used to replace credits from AP courses, previous college credits, and joint programs.
The cost of the degree program, for someone who has not yet earned college credits is approximately $7000. This cost includes:
- Enrollment in the college
- Academic advisement
- Examination fees
- Graduation fee
The fee schedule, subject to change, is:
- $2000 upon enrollment
- $2000 at the beginning of second semester
